Program Overview
Peru is a country that intrigues even the most savvy travelers and compels them to step into its ancient civilization to take a much closer look. Join Intrax Study Abroad on our 4-week Culture+ program. Your study abroad experience begins in Cusco, whose Incan-built stone walls attest to its long history. Our unique program combines local exploration, participation in community service projects, intercultural competence training and language acquisition. Studying and immersing yourself in the Peruvian culture will improve your Spanish skills and challenge you to learn in diverse settings. In Cusco – considered the "Navel of the World" because of its centrality to the ancient Inca empire – you will focus on Spanish language, Intercultural Competence (ICC) coursework and excursions to inspiring natural attractions and ancient archeological sites. Then you will put your Spanish and ICC training into practice with field-based studies in Urubamba, in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, home to many of the most stunning and intriguing ruins left by their great civilization.
Our instructors will bring coursework to life by engaging you in hands-on, field-based learning. As you work side-by-side with Andean villagers on important sustainable development projects, you will find that your ICC training not only has trained you to recognize the cultural differences that separate you, but also has taught you to adapt to these differences. Trekking further afield into the Sacred Valley, you will conduct an independent research project designed to personalize your ICC training and make "global thinking" a new and instinctive skill which will help you throughout your professional and personal life.
