Field Studies
Teaching ICC through a careful blend of classroom and field-based learning sets Intrax's new Culture+ programs apart. In addition, conduct independent research, participate in culture seminar briefings and contribute to important community-based sustainable development projects in numerous destinations around the country such as Jacó Beach, Curú Bay, Puerto Viejo-Limón. A crucial component of your field studies is an independent study project (ISP) supervised by the ICC instructor that incorporates reflection papers, one-on-one contact with locals, more language acquisition and group discussions on how your ICC training has honed your global skills.
On your first weekend in the field, you’ll witness the continuous daily flow of lava from the 5,000-foot peak of Arenal Volcano. If the weather conditions are good, you’ll be able to capture some spectacular photos for your journal project! In nearby Monteverde Cloud Forest, conduct research in some of the most diverse wildlife and vegetation in the world then hike to waterfalls or take a dip in natural hot springs. Find a quiet nook in the jungle to make entries into your journal or prepare a presentation for an evening session of intercultural competence with your fellow students. You’ll see lots of colorful birds, flowers and probably a few howler monkeys swinging in the trees above you too!
