Field Studies
After finishing your course work in Kunming, it is time to take learning completely into the field. Outfitted with a mountain bike, a driver and a guide, the province is your classroom and exploring it is your assignment. Your mountain bike will take you to off-the-beaten-track rural villages such as the famous towns of Dali and Lijiang (a UNESCO World Heritage site), and put you into daily contact with the people of Yunnan. The scenery of Yunnan Province is stunning, dotted with small rural villages, and just when you think you are in the middle of nowhere, a huge city looms in the distance. All this is part of the China experience in a land of a 1.3 billion people.
A crucial component of your field studies is an independent study project (ISP) supervised by the ICC instructor that incorporates reflection papers, one-on-one contact with locals, more language acquisition and group discussions on how your ICC training has honed your global skills.
This field-based portion of your program incorporates reflection papers, language classes, ISP work and one-on-one contact with local people. Teaching ICC through a careful blend of classroom and field-based learning sets Intrax's new Culture+ programs apart.
Your program wraps up in Shanghai, the economic capital of China. This is where we will hold our final ICC class to help you synthesize and encapsulate your month-long intercultural experience.
