Academics
As globalization draws us closer together, it is critical that we understand not only ourselves but also the other cultures and perspectives that will influence global society. China has long been a mystery to much of the western world, but its increasingly important role in our economy demands that the political, business and academic leaders of tomorrow be prepared to join with China in setting the course for our future. While good intentions are helpful, intercultural skills and common language are the real foundation for successful interactions between people from different cultures.
Based at Yunnan Normal University's (YNNU) Institute of Chinese and International Studies Center (ICIS), our unique curriculum, including field-based Mandarin, ICC and culture courses and a guided independent study project, enables you to build global skills: intercultural communication, conflict resolution and the ability to work across cultures. ICC topics are taught both inside and outside the classroom and include cross-cultural communications, globalization, business negotiations and Chinese culture and history. Your curriculum will be reinforced with site visits, interaction with local people and guided travel throughout Yunnan Province.
Your language classes are tailored to your individual ability, so don't worry if you are a beginner, intermediate or fluent Mandarin speaker. There will also be a 5-day homestay with a local Kunming family to provide you with a comfortable, yet immersive environment for practicing your Mandarin language ability and newly acquired ICC skills.
Intrax's programs are accredited by a US university, enabling students to easily transfer academic credit to their home university. Please see the academic credit section for more details.
