Reentry Support
Reverse culture shock is a very common reaction for students coming home from studying abroad. It can be described as that unsettling feeling students often experience as they are readjusting to their "old life." One student's reactions may differ from that of another but can include one or more of the following:
- Restlessness
- Boredom
- Changes in life goals and priorities
- Reverse homesickness
- Negativity towards the US, including behavior, attitudes and customs
- Frustration that you can't express your experience
We have anticipated this common reentry reaction and offer our students the following support in order to address readjustment issues:
- Be prepared:
- Prior to returning to the United States students participate in a reentry discussion in order to set their expectations and make them aware of possible readjustment issues and reactions.
- Stay involved:
- Intrax alumni are encouraged to stay connected to their study abroad experience by becoming a College Representative. This is an excellent opportunity to continuously share your study abroad experience, network within an international community and gain important work experience utilizing your newly acquired study abroad skills.
- Tell us your story:
- One of the most common frustrations expressed by returned students is that no one wants to hear or seems to care about their study abroad experience. WE DO! We love to hear about our students' study abroad experiences through written stories, phone calls, photo galleries, presentations, blogs, travel journals, surveys, etc. Share your story and we will post it on our "Student Stories" page.
